The Boundless Star, with her charge, finally returned to Eastpoint at the end of the 9th Moon. For a few weeks, her crew was given shore leave—and for their trouble over the last few months, they were all given a small bonus. Tali took hers home to Warim, to give to her mother dearest. She told her ma, Mayela of Warim, all about her voyage to the grand city of the Joyous King, about her trek through the Raderan swamps, and about her hard work repairing the ship. The door to the Storm Fort meeting chamber slowly closed under Kelren’s push, latching with a quiet click. Kelren was left feeling bewildered—his meeting with the Three Commanders had been utterly unexpected. Kelren had much to think about now. He had been back in Eastpoint for a few weeks now, but much more was about to happen now. Continue reading East Storm Company 14

After the Whalestone Jail job, the mercenaries of Adrix’s squad were given a period of respite. Many had small cuts and bruises to heal while a few had more grave injuries. Brellik was off his feet for a few weeks, waiting for the bad sprain in his leg to heal. The gash up his side was all scabbed up but he had finally had the stitches removed. Relis—one of the handful of dedicated magicians in the Company’s ranks—had ensured no infection would take hold. Diggs, on the other hand, was still very much in recovery. The arrow had done serious damage to his shoulder and, upon removal, even grazed the lung. His survival was truly miraculous, but his future remained unclear. Continue reading East Storm Company 13

Only Bellasa still stood. Somehow it had endured the bandits’ wrath for more than a year—but now it stood alone.
It was a chilling thought. Like a proper mercenary, Talina took a slug of her beer—to drown the feelings, as the others had. Here, in a noisy common room in Saanazar, the war felt a thousand miles away. The stories they now heard brought it closer with each word. Continue reading East Storm Company 12

The troop at Velend’s Grove finally began to pack up their supplies. Over the last month, the beleaguered rebels had begun to file back into their occupied town. The most radical were never seen again, but many wounded, starved, or simply defeated townsfolk had lost the spirit to pose as separatists. Continue reading East Storm Company 11

Whalestone Jail rose through the nighttime fog three-storey stone walls looming up from the shore of a narrow river. The veritable castle of imprisonment looked out over both the river and the sea, for the fog was rolling in from the coast—which lay just past the Jail from the pair of dark rowboats. Tirak had glimpsed the moon lighting the mist aglow before the other mercenaries had pulled the black blankets over the top of the rowboat. Continue reading East Storm Company 10

Master Kelren groaned. His discomfort was noticed by one of the guards that Sergeant Cardan had been kind enough to provide him, but he raised a hand to silence any remark from the warrior. He didn’t need to stop. But his feet were sore. Kelren walked along the road that ran through the East Radregar forests and remembered the chaotic night of the hurricane. Continue reading East Storm Company 9

The weeks stretched by as Sergeant Adrix and the squad continued their motley tasks in and around the district of Councillor Cassiya. Tirak slowly earned their trust as he completed menial tasks of scouting and tracking the patrols of various soldiers in the Councillor’s employ; guarding select locations under Councillor Worlon’s control from counterstrikes of his adversary and peer; and the occasional “rough-‘em-up” beating to send a message or adjust standings. Insects buzzed overhead, chased by rainy breezes and the call of colourful forest birds. While the forests above the murky saltwater bog were nowhere near as dense or layered as the rainforest in High Raena—where the Boundless Star had set out on their ill-fated voyage—they were humid enough to coat all of Tali’s bare skin with sweat. Year 1481
In Eastpoint, an independent city state on the edge of East Radregar, the East Storm Company works for hire by the highest bidder. From their veritable castle, the Storm Fort, the mercenaries of the Company ply their trade locally and abroad, in the form of ships, swords, and sorcery. Their reach can be felt in a number of ways, among them… Continue reading In Recent Years: East Storm Company
