Year 1479

Lord Farek Gallendris spends his days working on administration for his sister’s rule of the city of Soros and the great Bank of the Old Empire of Noress and his nights partying in taverns with beautiful women. But Farek longs for more—enjoying the sight of ships sailing out across Raider’s Bay more than the blurry embrace of ale and arms. When approached by an old man claiming to be a magician, Farek initially laughs at the prophesy the man offers him—a prophesy to save his life. But, as his daily routine resumes, Farek realizes that, whether the prophesy of his impending fate is true or not, he wants to take his life into his own hands for once. He seeks out the old man to hear him out. Continue reading In Recent Year: Farek

Year 1478

Jobless Dago carouses the streets of Ellakar listlessly. In an alehouse in the lower town, Dago flirts at a length with someone he assumes is a woman of the night, only to be confronted by two muscular bouncers. The mercenary-by-trade follows them out into the street only to kill them; others soon restrain him however, and he is knocked out. When he awakens, Dago finds himself being held captive by that very woman, who is clearly more than she seemed before. Continue reading In Recent Years: Dago

Year 1478

Aralim arrives in Lantern Town, a small island town on the southern edge of what most consider the “Known World.” The Walker of the Path—a devout pilgrim that believes in questing for sources of power and enlightenment—meets young Miresh, an orphan child whose parents have abandoned her, among the beggars in the streets of the religious town. She asks if she may walk the Path with him, and he agrees. Continue reading In Recent Years: Aralim

In Recent Years: Introduction

At last, after five years, I’ve finished writing the final entry in the Shadow Glyph series, Timeline. As I explained via social media, at the time, I had placed Lives of Gethra on indefinite hiatus until I finished the much-deserved conclusion to my print series… and now it is complete.

At no point was I less excited to return to Gethra, and that time is finally at hand! As I begin writing some of the upcoming chapters, I will also release some synopsis chapters. This will help readers bridge the 1+ year gap that has passed since our characters were last visited. This “In Recent Years” series will feature one update per character and will include spoilers. It is intended primarily for returning readers, but also to help new readers get on-board quick — if they don’t want to read the already existing 3 years of Gethra’s twisting story-lines.

Be sure to tune in soon! The world of Gethra, and its inhabitants, was left in the lurch of tumultuous times, and will face great struggle yet to come… not unlike our real world, it seems.

Everyone stay safe, and enjoy some reading if you have the time!

Yours,
N.A. Vreugdenhil

East Storm Company 6

Water cascaded out of the skies, pouring across the southern lands of Radregar and flooding the countryside around Eastpoint.  Drenched, Mavri and Esevar hurried along the valley behind the battalion.  Their boots, full of water, sloshed through the muddy streams.  Mavri pushed a drifting branch aside, leaving it swirling in the eddy of her passing. Arn 71

Arn heard their voices before he saw them.  There were two guards coming, chatting quietly at the top of the ladder.  Arn’s cell had only a small hallway beyond the metal bars.  There were no neighbouring cells either.

“Should have just killed him,” came one of the muted voices.

“Nah, he’s just like us,” mumbled another.

The first voice scoffed, “He’s insane.  I’m nothing like him.” Continue reading Arn 71
